Suchitoto

The road to the east of the country, in the department of Cuscatlan is Suchitoto; Nahuat language means "Place of bird flower." He is considered a colonial people with a great architectural beauty and cultural wealth. Thus was declared "cultural capital of El Salvador ."

 

Suchitoto located at 1,247 feet above sea level and distance of 45 kilometers north of San Salvador . It has beautiful cobbled streets, balconies and historic old houses dating from colonial times.

In addition, from anywhere in Suchitoto, you can witness the largest artificial lake in the country: Lake Suchitlán .

In Suchitoto there are several restaurants, cafes, bars, nightclubs and hotels.

Children can have fun in the parks "Centenario" and "San Martin." In the latter there is a small monument to the 12 years of war suffered by the country as well as a call to conscience for us to care our nature.

Ilobasco

The municipality of Ilobasco in the Department of Cabañas is located geographically in the central region of the country. His name is home Nahuat, comes from the word Hilotaxca which means "made of corn tortilla (omelet) tender"

During the colonial was known by the name of Gilobasco, Hilobasco, Xilobasco, it is believed that priests Spaniards ruling and wrote for an error in pronunciation.

The locals say orally that Ilobasco is an indigenous name that means "golden thread" more clearly warns that it is a naive to assert that Ilobasco means "golden thread" because no pre-Columbian language is the word. Its etymology is "Place of many milpas (maize plantations). It is believed that was called in because their fertile lands abundantly grow of maize plantations.

The Religious festivity of church Catholic of this community is in honor of San Miguel Ancangel to be held from 20 to 29 September.

Another Religious festivity of church Catholic which takes place in the community is in honor of the Virgen de los desamparados , the third Sunday in May. It is customary in this solemn celebration Masses, rosaries and pilgrimages to the various shrines. The devout people make their visits to the Virgin offered to pay any promise.

Also at the Calvary Church celebrate their own festival in honor of Lord of the Misericordias on 28 January.

The Neighborhood of the Cruz its own Religious festivity in honor of the Santa Cruz , it is customary to hold solemn Masses, rosaries and cheerful procession with the band and rockets. This festival is held on 2 and 3 May.

Ilobasco is regarded as one of the main centers where their potters Central American artisans make a small piece of clay into an artistic figure.

The craft activity in the field of ceramics dating from pre-Columbian times, achieving at present many technical advances to facilitate their elaboration and to give them a better finish to the products, thanks to the constant creativity of artisans.

The figure miniature ceramic is the most typical feature of this area. Make figures of ceramics and ornaments representing the nature and industriousness of the Salvadoran peasant.

San Sebastián

Very near San Esteban Catarina is the city of San Sebastián very famous for the production of textiles. Here, walking down the cobbled streets discover houses with large looms lever, mechanism which was introduced during the colonial time to replace the small indigenous looms waist.

In a picturesque scene can watch dozens of skeins of cotton yarn forming rainbows in the streets while are drying in the sun after having been "enchilatadas." Yourself admired watching men preparing guns and stretchers of cotton yarn with lathes and wire winders wood while others, with precise coordination of hands and feet, weave producing a sound dry and continuous him throughout the city. Here you will find excellent fabrics that will be used for the manufacture of a wide range of hammocks, tablecloths, table centers, cushions, bedspreads and curtains.
