The dish by excellence that better identifies Salvadorans anywhere in the world, are the Pupusas.
The Pupusas is a Salvadoran dish that includes a combination of corn, beans, vegetables, spices and in recent years have added ingredients such as fish, shrimp, chicken, ham, Pepperoni, salami, tuna, among others.
It is unknown the exact date on which create the first Pupusas. However, it said it was a tradition that already existed before the arrival of the Spaniards to Salvadoran territory (Cuzcatlán). The Pupusas developed in this era had as main ingredients corn and beans. These two ingredients were (and still are) staples of the diet of our ancestors.
With the arrival of the Spaniards include other foods. Thus, as the Pupusas pre-Hispanic is influenced by new ingredients: cheese and pork rind.

Each year Salvadorans celebrated the national day of the Pupusas. This celebration takes place the second Sunday in November. The Pupusas is a typical dish Salvadoran very important for the economy of El Salvador , since it is said that every weekend is selling reach several million dollars a day.
